Place: Casa de Luz
Gary Stephens has been waiting 24 days for a sponsor.
About a year ago, Lisa and I entered into a season of personal assessment as I felt my own sense of call evolving. Through prayer and dialogue with friends, family and mentors, we believe the Lord asked me to lay down the role of lead pastor of Abbotsford Vineyard Church to focus on giving leadership to Casa de Luz Ministries full-time starting April 1, 2019.
The need in Primo Tapia, Mexico is vast. Women are living in abusive and dangerous situations. Children are vulnerable as they are left at home alone while their mothers try and find work. Teens are dropping out of school and roaming the streets, falling prey to drug dealers and gang members. Families are living in extreme poverty with no hope of a healthy future due to lack of education, employment opportunities and family support.
Our ministry in Mexico is continually growing to help meet these needs. Our goal at CDL is always to empower and come alongside people. Through education, micro-loans, child-care, youth programs, counselling, and relationship and accountability we aim to create a healthy, whole and sustainable lifestyle as these families walk out of years of poverty, abuse, addiction and despair.
My new role will be to oversee and give overall direction to Casa de Luz Ministries. Our opportunity to effect change is rapidly expanding, as several other churches and organisations from Canada and the USA believe in the vision of CDL and want to partner with us. I will concentrate on building these new partnerships so CDL can expand its work in Mexico while also helping organisations implement a missional mindset within their communities. I will also be focusing on building and launching our new Youth Centre for at-risk teens in 2019.
Stepping into this new role will require much prayer and the financial support of individuals who believe in the vision of CDL and are able to give toward my remuneration. I would be honoured if you could join me on this journey. I know I can't do this alone!
